Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS A VIRTUAL FOOD DRIVE?
Instead of hosting a traditional food drive collecting dry and canned goods, a virtual food drive fundraiser collects money to convert into grocery store gift cards for our participating families.
WHY GIFT CARDS?
Providing gift cards allows each family to purchase fresh, whole foods that they might not otherwise be able to purchase. It also allows them to choose traditional foods that would be better suited to their cultural celebrations.
WHAT STORES CAN THE GIFT CARDS BE USED AT?
Nourishing Noggins co-chairs will take the funds raised and convert them into Walmart or Food Lion gift cards. It's important to us that the funds go as far as they possibly can, and that the stores be conveniently located to each family.
HOW DO THE FAMILIES RECEIVE THE GIFT CARDS?
Rather than sending the gift cards home with the students and risk having them misplaced, each gift card will be hand-delivered to the family by MPE guidance counselors, Nancy Stavrakakis and Teri Armstrong. Another perk of providing gift cards is that they take up much less space and aren't nearly as heavy as boxes of canned food.
